  1. Can't say as I've seen goat meat in the meat section of my local grocery store. However I have eaten goat as it is quite popular in Trinidad and Tobago - in a curry it is very tasty. Of course, on numerous occasions, I've also eaten crow - metaphorically speaking. :)

    1. So you travel to the Caribbean a lot? Thanks for visiting back. They kill a lot of male goats here in Ireland apparently, and use the females for dairy, and most of the meat is wasted and I can't understand why. I mean, we don't have goat meat patties or processed goat meat in anything like the ways we have other meats.

  3. I know some people who were goat farmers. For meat. I have no idea who they sell to, though. I know several people who drink goat milk and eat goat cheese, however. I just like to Totes Ma Goats. :)

    1. I think it's a very healthy meat, and it's a terrible waste to see it not being used, when meat is such a high-value food in terms of production cost, the life of the animal etc.

  4. Oh noes! Poor goats! Save the goats! (I'm a vegetarian lol). We have some mini goat farmers near the house. Not sure if they're for eating or not. But there are hundreds of them.

    Happy A to Z-ing!

    1. But you know what, Anna, the goat meat going to waste is outrageous to me.

    2. Just curious...what about other meats? Horse? Dog? Dolphin? Etc? All for eating them too? I know a lot of meat eaters that are okay with some forms but others horrify them. I've never understood that.

    3. I was going to add that if insect meat was available, I would eat that. If they had lots of cricket farms instead of cattle ranches, it'd save the planet from all the cowfarts, excuse my language. Horse? You've got your horse-meat scandal in the UK and Europe in the last year or two. Why did they destroy a whole lot of meat coz there was horsemeat added to the beef at the supermarket chains? I mean, the horse had already been bolted! (I'm sorry, that's a terrible joke.) But the same goes fro these male goats, Anna. It's a total waste. If they had KFG instead of KFC, it wouldn't be an issue.

    4. Another thing - there was a guy a few years back in Ireland who made a loopy proposal. He said that once a year, everyone ought to go - by law - to an abattoir and slaughter one animal in order to retain a meat-eater's license. That works for me. I don't know if I would do it. It would make us all realise exactly what we're eating, exactly how scared the animals are (if they're scared), exactly what goes into the whole thing.

    5. Yes I don't understand that at all that they could waste all of that meat and those lives for nothing. I can understand if the meat had been contaminated but I just don't get the outcry over horsemeat on the market.

I think that would be very interesting seeing how people would react to that sort of law. I know a lot of people who wouldn't be able to do that. I know I wouldn't have when I did eat meat. If my life were threatened (lost in the wild/etc) yeah I could but thankfully I'm safe at home and have other options, ya know?

  7. I miss a good roasted goat during christmas time. My grandmother would cook one every year. Venezuelan here... it's true that I haven't seen goat meat the grocery store in the US, I don't think ever! Great post! :) I'm still thinking about what my G post is going to be (not gratitude or grateful for sure).

    1. Sounds like a super childhood. I hope you're not too badly affected by the turmoil in Venezuela. Crazy that the currency isn't being supported by the government, crazy that people can't buy flights etc. I write for an magazine here for international students, and I've heard there are lots of South American students who have lost out on college and language school places because they are unable to get out of Caracas etc.
